One of the main things we need in life is to have good friends that support us, help us, teach us and love us. Most people are so lonely, so tired of being alone. They don’t know their neighbors. They go home alone….
One of the main keys in reaching people for the kingdom is to build redemptive friendships. This isn’t about making people a project, but about making true friends with the goal of introducing them to Jesus. “Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, ‘Follow Me.’” The Ministry of Healing (p. 143).
So much of our society is reacting to each other about politics, religion and on social media about all kinds of things. What would it be like if people saw Christians as nice and good? What if we didn’t argue or complain, but we were kind?
Another key in reaching people for the kingdom is for them to see Christians, getting out of their churches and into the community, serving and making things better. Serving the community with kindness. Cleaning parks, helping people, even getting involved with social issues.
Most people today are building walls that keep people out because they don’t look right, smell right, believe different or are not the same. As Christians we need to build bridges for people to come to Christ and the church…
One of the keys to reaching people with the Good News is to build bridges and hold events at the church that are not spiritual in theme, but that invite the community into the facility. They have friends that go to your church, they have seen that church serving in the community, now they want to attend a class about finances, a seminar on parenting, building bridges to church and to Christ.
You cannot reap what you have not sown. This is a basic issue in farming. Most of us aren’t farming, yet it works this way in the church and reaching people also. We must sow the seeds of the gospel….
Sowing the seeds means simple things like handing out tracts, mailing a magazine subscription, giving Bible studies, but things that are directly related to helping people find Jesus. Then, if we have followed these steps: Friendship, Kindness, Bridging, and Sowing, we are ready to REAP!
